Hurrah, we come to the end of the module! We started by asking why the temperature difference between day and night is much smaller on the Earth compared to the Moon. As you learnt in this module, the Earth's atmosphere plays a very important role in controlling the Earth's temperature.
During the day, the atmosphere blocks a lot of the Sun's heat from entering the Earth. During the night, it prevents a lot of heat from escaping the Earth. In this way, the Earth's atmosphere ensures that the temperature doesn't have extremes.
As the Moon does not have an atmosphere, its heat doesn't get controlled. So, the Moon has extreme weather conditions during the day and night.
