Hurrah, we come to the end of the module! We had initially discussed that icebergs are huge blocks of ice, 90% of which is under water. We asked why 90% of ice is submerged.

Now that we have understood Archimedes' Principle, we can answer that question. As the ice begins to sink in the water, it begins to experience a buoyant force.

The more it sinks, the more the buoyant force. When it is 90% submerged in water, the buoyant force equals its weight, and it doesn't sink anymore. That's why we only see the tip of the iceberg!
