In QM, the situation is different. There is no such thing as the actual truth. Even if you zoomed into the electron, using whatever means, you won't be able to discern the spin. The electron genuinely exhibits properties of both spins.
Of course, if you explicitly measure the spin, you will get either $$+\frac{1}{2}$$ or $$-\frac{1}{2}$$. The state of the electron, in some sense, collapses to one of these two states.
