You are off to a good start! Yes, protons and electrons have the same value of charge, but, while the proton has a positive charge, the electron has a negative charge. So, the number of protons must equal the number of electrons for the atom to remain neutral.
If you recall, in the earlier module, you had answered that electrons orbit the nucleus like horses on a merry-go-round.
Think again of the merry-go-round. How are the horses distributed in a merry-go-round?
  • More horses near the centre of the merry-go-round
  • More horses towards the edge of the merry-go-round
  • Same number of horses near the centre, as well as at the edges
