Rutherford came up with a different model. He imagined each atom to be like the Solar System. He said that the protons are at the centre of the atom. This was like the Sun at the centre of the Solar System. The electrons revolve around the protons just like the planets go around the Sun.

In this way, a collision between electrons and protons could be avoided. The centre of the orbit, where all the protons are packed together, was called the Nucleus.
