Let us modify the watermelon model of the atom. We know that most of watermelon is empty space. So, all the red part of the watermelon is empty space.

Earlier, all the seeds were electrons (that is, had a negative charge). We now modify the model to be so that some seeds are electrons and an equal number are protons (positive charge).
What would happen to the electrons and protons in this model?
  • They stay fixed
  • They move towards each other
  • They repel (move away) from each other
