If you have watched cricket closely, you may have seen that wicket-keepers move their hands slightly away from the ball just before they catch the ball. If you haven't seen this, you should try catching a ball thrown at you. Just before the ball hits your hand, move your hand slightly away from the ball. Then, repeat the same experiment by moving your hand towards the ball just before it hits your hand.
If you do this several times, you will notice that if you move your hand away from the ball, you are more likely to catch the ball than if you move your hand towards it. Most of you may already guess the answer as to why this is so. In this module, we will understand this phenomenon more mathematically.
