We began the module by discussing how it is easier to catch a ball if you move your hands slightly away from it before it just hits your hand. We can now understand why: it is all based on relative velocities. If you move your hand away from the ball, your hand is moving in the same direction as the ball.
Just like with the example with the two cars colliding, if two objects move in the same direction, the relative velocity is lesser. As the velocity is lesser, there is lesser impact on your hand, and so it is easier to grasp the ball. Physics is useful for playing cricket too!
